Happy Harvey Day, indeed!
The Mets earned their 19th victory in their last 31 games as Matt Harvey was once again absolutely phenomenal today. The ace pitched a hitless ballgame up until the 4th inning where he allowed a measly single. Harvey didn’t let that deter him as he continued to pound the strikeouts on the Phillies hitters. In total, Harvey pitched 7 scoreless innings and struck out an impressive 10 batters, earning his 8th win of the season. Harvey leads the league in strikeouts with 157 Ks.
The offense came to impress by hitting three homeruns off of the Phillies starter, Cliff Lee. Team Captain, David Wright, started it off with a solo blast in the 1st on his 9-year anniversary since joining the Mets. The second homerun, which was right after Wright’s, came from none other than the team’s HR leader, Marlon Byrd for his 17th homerun of the season. However, the biggest homerun of the day came from the rookie, Juan Lagares, who hit his second career homerun, a three-run blast in the 4th to put the Mets up 5-0. That would be all the offense the Mets would need.
